Why are Facebook and Instagram down today?

Some bloggers attribute the reason for the malfunction occurring on Facebook and Instagram to the Houthis cutting some of the cables under control as a response to the siege of Gaza.
In recent days, the region has witnessed an escalation after the sinking of an oil tanker and then an attempt to cut cables, which are considered an essential link to servers around the world.

The international telecommunications company "Secom" announced a defect in its infrastructure in the Red Sea, affecting the cable system in Africa. Suspicions have been directed toward the Houthi area of activity as a possible vacation spot.

The company stated that part of the cable system that passes through the Red Sea stopped working properly, affecting the flow of information between Africa and Europe.

Although the cause of the outage has not yet been confirmed, the focus is on the ongoing tensions in the region, making cable repair a challenge for maintenance operations.

This warning comes after previous statements by the Houthis about their willingness to sabotage Western internet cables in the Red Sea, raising concerns about the continuity of electronic services in the region.
